Kudrevatykh, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sci-ences, ProfessorFounded in the 1950sAbstractIn the Urals, research in the field of physics of magnetic materials started in the mid‑20th century. One of the key figures behind this research was Prof.Yakov Shur, a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. His fundamental stud‑ies of remagnetization processes, coercitive force, magnetic structure and anisotro‑py, the domain structure of ferrimagnetic materials of different classes and work in the field of applied magnetism won him recognition in the Soviet Union and abroad. Y. S. Shur considered training of highly qualified magnetologists of prime impor‑tance. He was the founder and the first chair of the Department of Magnetism at the Ural State University (now — UrFU) (1945–1947). For a long time he taught such disciplines as Ferromagnetism and Magnetic Materials to students of this Department. Students and associates of Y. S. Shur (A. V. Deryagin, F. N. Dunaev, G. S. Kandaurova, O. A. Ivanov, I. A. Kuznetsov, D. D. Mishin) made up the core faculty of the Department in the 1970s –1990s and were the driving force behind the development of magnetic materials studies at the University, contributing to the prosperity of the School of Magnetic Materials.There are currently over 30 members of the School employed by the Ural Feder‑al University, including N.
