The United Kingdom (the UK) does not have a single legal system due to it being created by the political union of previously in-dependent countries with the terms of the Treaty of Union guaranteeing the continued existence of Scotland’s separate legal system. Today the UK has three distinct systems of law: English law, Northern Ireland law and Scots law. Recent constitutional changes saw a new Supreme Court of the United Kingdom come into being in October 2009 that took on the appeal functions of the Appellate Committee of the House of Lords. The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, comprising the same members as the Supreme Court, is the highest court of appeal for several independent Commonwealth countries, the UK overseas ter-ritories, and the British crown dependencies.The Queen’s Official Birthday (King’s Official Birthday in the reign of a male monarch) is the selected day on which the birthday of the monarch of the Commonwealth realms (currently Queen Elizabeth II) is officially celebrated. The exact date of the celebration today varies from country to country around the end of May to the start of June and, except by coincidence, does not fall on the day of the monarch’s actual birthday, that of the present monarch being 21 April. In 1922, five-sixths of Ireland seceded from the United Kingdom, and the state was renamed the «United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland» in 1927.Great Britain has diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation (they were established with the USSR on 2 February 1924, they were interrupted on 26 May 1927, and they were restored on 3 October 1924). Great Britain became a member of the United Nations on 24 October 1945. Great Britain participates in dispute for Northern Ireland with Ireland (the historical peace agreement on ...
